Tips to Avoiding the Holiday Weight Gain

For some, the holidays are a time of celebration and excitement. But they are also often a time of over-indulging. This can lead to serious guilt by those trying to cut back due to health reason or simply to improve overall fitness.

For this reason, this holiday season, don’t let that guilt sink in with these tips.

Grab a Friend an Get Moving

One of the best things you can do during the holidays for yourself is to get moving. If people are begging to see you, invite them to one of your favorite fitness classes or head out for a run or walk. It is so much better than grabbing coffee or drinks every night of the week. Plus, you won’t have to stress about when you are going to fit everything in!

Eat Before Heading to the Grocery Store

This is a great tip all year round but especially during the holidays. Whether you eat a piece of fruit, veggies, or a granola bar, having something in your system will help you stick to your list!

During the holidays, there are treats around every corner of the store. If you go hungry, chances are you are coming home with the Yule Log ice cream cake or that tray of cupcakes shaped like a Christmas Tree and don’t even get us started on all the Christmas candy.

Track Your Meals

Yes, this may sound like a buzz-kill but it is amazing the effect writing down what you are putting into your body can have on your actions.  The key is to write EVERYTHING down. Not just what looks good on paper!

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

We cannot stress it enough. Drinking water in the wintertime is critical. Too often we are dehydrated and our minds convince us we are hungry. Not only can drinking water be good to reduce calorie intake, it is also necessary when you are working out heavily, and great for your skin which tends to dry out more during the winter months.
